What We Use in Our Methodology

To find the top financial advisors in Huntington Beach, we first identified all firms registered with the SEC in the city. Next, we filtered out firms that don't offer financial planning services, those that don't serve primarily individual clients and those that have disclosures on their record. The qualifying firms were then ranked according to the following criteria:

  • AUM
Firms with more total assets under management are ranked higher.
  • Individual Client Count
Firms who serve more individual clients (as opposed to institutional clients) are ranked higher.
  • Clients Per Advisor
Firms with a lower ratio of clients per financial advisor are ranked higher.
  • Age of Firm
Firms that have been in business longer are ranked higher.
  • Fee Structure
Firms with a fee-only (as opposed to fee-based) compensation structure are ranked higher.

All information is obtained through public records and is updated annually after the firms’ form ADV filing. This list may include firms that have a business relationship with SmartAsset, in which SmartAsset is compensated for lead referrals. Such relationships have no impact on our rankings, and firms are included and ranked based strictly on the above criteria. SmartAsset is not a client of the aforementioned firms, and did not receive compensation for including any of the firms on the aforementioned list.

Trilogy Capital, Inc.

The first firm on our list of the top financial advisors in Huntington Beach is Trilogy Capital, Inc. Trilogy has thousands of clients, the vast majority of whom are non-high-net-worth individuals. Other clients of the firm include high-net-worth individuals, retirement plans, charities and businesses. While the firm calls for a minimum investment of $5,500 from new clients, it may accept those with less.

The firm's advisors hold a range of certifications, including chartered financial analysts (CFAs) and accredited investment fiduciaries (AIFs).

Trilogy is a fee-based firm. Some advisors are also brokers and all are insurance agents. In their non-advisors roles, they receive transaction-based fees from third parties, on top of client fees. This poses a potential conflict of interest, though the firm is legally obligated as a fiduciary to act in the best interests of clients.

Trilogy Capital Background

Jeff Motske, the CEO and principal owner of Trilogy, established the firm in 2015. Prior to opening the firm, Motske accrued decades of financial services experience and earned his certified financial planner (CFP) certification. He's one of  the CFPs on the firm's leadership team.

Trilogy offers investment management services to clients to help them reach their investment goals. To do this, the firm takes into account each client's risk tolerance, financial goals, time horizon, tax status and more. Based on these factors, Trilogy pairs clients with one of the following types of portfolio strategies: Core portfolio series, Select portfolio series, Sleeve portfolio series or Continuity portfolio series.

The firm also has two financial planning services called DecisionCoach and DecisionCenter Plan. Both are used to help clients develop a systematic approach to meeting certain investment or financial objectives. In addition, the firm provides financial consulting services.

Trilogy Capital Investment Strategy

Trilogy Capital provides comprehensive investment management services that are tailored to the investment goals and needs of each client. Advisors meet with clients to determine important factors like investment preferences, time horizon, risk tolerance and anything else relevant to constructing an effective asset allocation strategy. Advisors rebalance portfolios on either a regular or as-needed basis to ensure that the intended asset allocation remains intact over time.

In conjunction with its asset allocation-centric approach, Trilogy usually looks to diversify clients' investments. However, specific investment strategies vary significantly depending on their specific needs. The firm typically uses both technical and fundamental methods of analysis to inform investment decisions.

Weaver Consulting Group, LLC

Weaver Consulting Group's team has a small group of on-staff advisors who provide services like financial planning, general consulting, investment management, wealth management and pension consulting. Within the area of financial planning, the firm typically deals with cash flow planning, trust and estate planning, retirement planning, tax planning, insurance planning, cash flow planning and more.

The majority of Weaver Consulting's client base is made up of individuals who do not have high net worths, though it boasts some high-net-worth individual clients as well. It also works with a handful of retirement plans and businesses, as well as one university. The firm does not have an explicit minimum investment for new clients.

As a fee-based firm, certain advisors at Weaver Consulting may be able to earn commissions for selling insurance products or securities to clients. Despite the potential conflict of interest this potentially creates, the firm is legally bound by its fiduciary duty to act in clients' best interests at all times.

Weaver Consulting Group Background

Weaver Consulting Group was founded in 2017. Jason Weaver and Travis Weaver, two of the firm's three financial advisors, are the principal owners. Jason Weaver is the firm's managing partner, while Travis Weaver is a partner.

Jason Weaver holds three different advisory certifications: chartered retirement planning counselor (CRPC), accredited asset management specialist (AAMS) and chartered mutual fund consultant (CMFC). Travis Weaver is a CRPC, AAMS and accredited wealth management advisor (AWMA).

Weaver Consulting Group Investment Strategy

Weaver Consulting Group uses clients' needs and goals to inform investment strategies for their portfolios. Through advisor-client conversations, they will take note of each client's long- and short-term objectives, as well as their risk tolerance and liquidity needs. This is called a holistic approach, as it attempts to take all aspects of the client's financial life into account.

Weaver Consulting typically invests in mutual funds, structured notes, debt securities, equity securities and exchange-traded funds. The firm is focused on providing attractive risk-adjusted returns for all client portfolios. Advisors utilize fundamental and quantitative methods of analysis to evaluate securities and continually rebalances portfolios as needed.

Inspired Financial

Inspired Financial offers asset management and financial planning services under the umbrella of wealth management. The firm also provides accounting and other tax services. Through this offering, clients will be able to take advantage of services like insurance planning, tax planning, estate planning, charitable gift planning, retirement planning, portfolio design and rebalances. Ideally, this set of services is designed to help clients plan for and meet their financial goals in a holistic manner.

The firm works exclusively with individual clients, about three-quarters of whom have a high net worth. Additionally, while there is no minimum investment requirement, there is a minimum annual fee of $18,000. This is a fee-only firm which means that it does not collect commissions or other transaction-based fees from vendors. Its only compensation is from client-paid fees.

Inspired Financial Background

Inspired Financial opened its doors for business in 2003. Evelyn M. Zohlen is the founder, president and sole owner of the firm, and she holds a certified financial planner (CFP) designation. Zohlen boasts nearly 20 years of experience in individual and institutional wealth management. Mark Prendergast, the firm's director of tax strategies, is also a CFP, as well as a certified public accountant (CPA) and a certified divorce financial analyst (CDFA).

Inspired Financial Investment Strategy

Inspired Financial meets with clients at least once at the start of each relationship to determine important factors such as their tax situation, existing assets, risk tolerance, financial goals and objectives. Advisors use this information to construct an investment plan and strategy for each client. When a strategy is agreed upon, advisors will then put the plan into action and periodically rebalance and reevaluate portfolios in order to ensure it's still able to help clients meet their goals.

While the specific investments used in each portfolio depend upon the agreed upon strategy, advisors typically use a mix of exchange-traded funds, mutual funds, stocks, bonds and other securities. The firm uses fundamental methods of analysis when it comes to evaluating potential investments, which are then purchased on long- or short-term basis.

Rank City Housing Expenses Food Expenses Healthcare Expenses Utilities Expenses Transportation Expenses

Methodology We analyzed data on average expenditures for seniors, cost of living and investment returns to determine how many years of retirement a $1 million nest egg would cover in cities across America.

First, we looked at data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on the average annual expenditures of seniors. We then applied cost of living data from the Council for Community and Economic Research to adjust those national average spending levels based on the costs of each expense category (housing, food, healthcare, utilities, transportation and other) in each city. Using this data, SmartAsset calculated the average cost of living for retirees in the largest U.S. cities.

We assumed the $1 million would grow at a real return (interest minus inflation) of 2%. Then, we divided $1 million by the sum of each of those annual numbers to determine how long $1 million would cover retirement expenses in each of the cities in our study. Cities where $1 million lasted the longest ranked the highest in the study.
