With the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card you can earn a solid 80,000-point bonus after you spend $4,000 on purchases over your first three months with the card. This card does, however, carry a $95 annual fee, though you won't be charged any foreign transaction fees.

When it comes to rewards rates, this card earns 2x points on eligible travel and dining purchases. What’s great is that these categories tend to be broadly defined and include purchases made on public transit, as well as at all restaurants. Through March 2022, cardholders can earn an additional 3x points on purchases of qualifying Lyft products, for a grand total of 5x points. While points are typically valued at one cent each, redeeming them through the Chase travel portal increases their value by 25%.

Why We Like It

The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is a great option for anyone with good credit that’s looking for a solid travel rewards card. With a relatively low annual fee and the opportunity to earn a heap of rewards points, it’s easy to get significant value out of the card. While there are certainly better cards on the market for those with excellent credit, the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is a great option for those with less than that.

The U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature Card starts cardholders off with the opportunity to earn a $150 cash back bonus after spending $500 on eligible purchases during their first 90 days as a cardholder. Each quarter, you can choose two rewards categories within which you’ll earn 5% cash back on up to $2,000 in eligible net purchases. You can also choose one category for which you’ll earn unlimited 2% cash back.

Outside of the above, all other purchases earn unlimited 1% cash back. This card also has no annual fee. However, there is a 2% transaction fee on foreign purchases and ATM transactions completed in U.S. currency. This fee rate jumps to 3% if the purchase or ATM transaction is completed in foreign currency, though.

Why We Like It

With the U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature Card, you’ll have a large selection of categories to choose from when it comes to your 2% and 5% cash back categories. Categories eligible for the highest rewards rate typically include movies, utilities or specific types of retail establishments, such as department stores.

While the 2% rewards category tends to have fewer options to choose from, these options are usually much less specific. The card has absolutely no annual fee, which makes earning rewards even more effective. If you have good credit and are looking for a card that offers some flexibility, this is a great option.
