Share

SmartAsset’s editorial content has been recognized as a winner at the 2020 Folio: Eddie & Ozzie Awards! Our COVID-19 series, “Helping Consumers and Businesses Weather Economic Changes,” won the award in the Consumer, News/General Interest category. Additionally, the content series was an honorable mention in the Consumer News Coverage category, alongside coverage from Popular Science and Harvard Business Review.

For more than 25 years, the Eddie & Ozzie Awards have recognized excellence in engaging content and gorgeous design across all sectors of the publishing industry – and 2020 is no different! This year’s winners feature the crème de la crème of content creators and designers – a pool of roughly 300 winners narrowed down from thousands of entries.

As the coronavirus began to take hold in the U.S., we felt we had a mandate to use our reach and expertise to help consumers and small businesses find useful information to navigate the economic impact of the pandemic. We formulated a hyper-focused editorial strategy to become the go-to resource for consumers and businesses looking for assistance programs and packages to help them weather the resulting economic storm.

Through the collaboration of our Editorial, SEO and Public Relations teams, within eight weeks we were able to hit a few major milestones, including the following:

  • Created a Coronavirus Stimulus and Relief Program Guide hub to house all of our content
  • Published more than 140 individual coronavirus-related articles, guides and personalized calculators
  • Drove more than 6 million pageviews for coronavirus-related content
  • Secured first-page search rankings for our “stimulus checks” and “PPP loans” guides
  • Citations in more than 170 unique pieces of online media

The team aims to explain these topics in straightforward and easily understood language, with accompanying infographics, so that users can take action toward achieving their personal financial goals. Using an accessible vernacular helps individuals and businesses capitalize on the resources made available to them.

In order to meet our mission to help people make smart financial decisions, the company’s in-house Editorial team (who are all Certified Educators in Personal Finance (CEPF)) publishes data-driven studies, topical guides, reviews, personalized calculators and educational tools to help consumers navigate life’s big personal finance decisions. These include home buying, retirement planning, life insurance, personal and student loans, credit cards, loan refinancing, taxes, investing and more.

The Editorial team’s content has been referenced by media outlets like The New York Times, Forbes and Business Insider, and the COVID-specific articles and guides have been featured in Fast Company, CNBC, Fox Business and many other top-tier national and local media outlets.
